Looking for a healthy dietary friendly restaurant? Birchwood Cafe has amazing vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. In addition, this girl right here was able to find some nut free desserts!

The first time my mom and I went to BC I got the Savory Waffle. Holy moly guacamole is it good. It is a must have waffle!!!!! I wonder if the recipe is in the restaurant’s cookbook. I want to try to make it.
What you see on the waffle: a sunny-side up egg, super thick cut bacon, tomato jam, and spicy honey butter. All on a sweet corn, cornmeal and cheddar waffle.
I think it might be better that Black Coffee and Waffle Bar… sorry not sorry.

Our second and most recent visit to BC I wanted to try something new from their tasty menu. We came for dinner so I was in the mood for more of a dinnery meal. Unlike last time when we ate for brunch.
We also ordered dessert because how could we not?! They were vegan –yay because my mom is lactose intolerant– and nut free. So it was a win-win for both of us.
Since the dessert is pre-made they bring it out to you first. So we ate dessert before our meals were made. I dunno how I feel about that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Next time maybe we’ll ask our server to bring it with our meals.

The first thing we took a bite out of was the vegan chocolate cake. The cake was on the richer and chocolatey side which I really liked. Dark chocolate fan all the way. Overall, it was a good cake. However, I will say that it was necessary to eat frosting with each bite because the cake was a little dry.

Next, our warm crisp arrived to our table. The crisp was close to perfect. I was nervous that it was going to be too sweet for my taste buds but it was just right. The crisp had a mix of berries and apples. But, there was no scoop of ice cream. How could they do that to us? How do you expect us to eat a crisp without ice cream? C’mon, get with the program BC.

Look at my sweet momma and I devouring our desserts. We came to BC to celebrate her birthday and the completion of moving me out of my apartment during my gap in my two leases. We picked a great place to do it at.

After taking a few bites of our dessert, our main meals came. I ordered the Veggies + Rice. The rice was spiced up with sambal and cilantro. It definitely had a kick to it. But, for someone who can’t tolerate much spiciness it was actually enjoyable. The rice was served with sautéed broccoli, kale, onions, tomatoes and carrots in a cucumber mint vinaigrette. It was delish!

In addition to helping me clean my plate, my mom also ordered the Sweet Corn and Summer Squash Soup. She said it was good but next time she won’t order a soup that has corn in it. Lol.
We had a latte fun at Birchwood Cafe 🙂
