Is it possible to fall in love with a burger? Because I think I just did. Even though the burger recipe yielded 6 burgers I wish we would have doubled it so we could have even more leftovers. SERIOUSLY!!
I first tried the Spoon Burger after my shift one day at work. It was delicious. Since I already knew this burger was fantastic I was excited to try cooking with something new: lamb! In addition, the Spoon Burger is one of my parents favorite dishes to get at Spoonriver, so, they were excited too. We’re still working on my little sister, haha.
The recipe I used is from, chef and restauranteur, Brenda Langton’s The Spoonriver Cookbook called the Lamb Spoon Burger. You can purchase it from the link or at the restaurant.
You can view her recipe in the picture below. I only made two recipe modifications. 1. I added 0.25 lb of beef for some extra fat to make it extra juicy and flavorful and 2. I added an additional egg white to help bind the burger ingredients together.
Don’t be intimidated by the ingredient list. Chopping and measuring each and every last ingredient is worth it!
In addition to my recipe modifications, I also grilled the burgers differently. First, I seared them on a cast iron griddle for 3 minutes on each side. I did this to lock in the flavor. Lastly, I put them on the grill for 1-2 minutes on each side until they were cooked through. The grill temperature was set to medium and it took the cast iron griddle 30 minutes to heat up.
Top your Lamb Spoon Burger with lettuce, tomato, onion/pickled onion, and ketchup. And don’t forget to serve it with grilled baby potatoes and vegetables!
